Michael

Margarian

Michael Margarian is a Portuguese musician, producer and educator with over 10 years of experience. He began his career teaching at music schools in Lisbon, passing through schools and colleges in Maastricht, Holland, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Born into a family of professional musicians and music academics, music education was always present in his life. He started his studies at the age of 5, on the piano. Later, he devoted himself to string and percussion instruments.

Michael holds two degrees, one in Classical Music, at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, and the other in Jazz, at the Conservatorium Maastricht, in the Netherlands. He also graduated in New York and Rome with musicians and educators such as Gregory Hutchinson, Peter Bernstein or Avishai Cohen, having thus perfected teaching methodologies and teaching techniques throughout his career.

In parallel, he recorded with artists in Holland and Brazil and stepped on numerous stages, also in different countries, in jazz, pop, classical and electronic formats.

As an educator, Michael feels the duty to transmit what he has added to his musical baggage over time in Portugal, Holland, Italy, USA and Brazil.

"Michael is passionate about what he does, and passion is contagious. A dedicated scholar, he seeks daily ways to improve his technical skills - when he is not in dialogue with me, I always find him practicing on any instrument. Every week he proposes a new challenge, and stares at him with sincere amusement. Between us, an attitude to be admired. However, his immense pleasure in playing is above any specific technique. When it comes to music, his eyes sparkle in an involuntary and authentic way. It's simple: he he really loves to live from music. Having this in essence, he can communicate his ideas and lessons with extreme ease. This is great not only for the teacher-student relationship, but for any human exchange. I already consider him a dear friend, for the charismatic bond that supports this professional evolution. I would not even know how to describe how much I have developed my listening and perception since our first meeting. No academic terms or complicated rules: be guided by Michael is finding a perfect spot between theory and practice. They are accessible and sensory conversations that trigger intuitive execution. It is a state of mind and, as such, difficult to define in concrete words. But I can sum up that with each new encounter, I come out firmer from walking on a safe bridge. No song seems unplayable, no challenge feels too hard. It's great for a student when the master allows himself to be surprised by a new discovery. Michael seems to know this. He always takes a bold step further, and invites me to join him. A shared fascination. And I'm still infected by the curiosity to explore that galaxy of sounds. The reason is very simple. Michael is passionate about what he does. Passion is contagious”.
